Privacy Policy

This policy describes the information collected during a visit, the reasons it may be used, and the limited circumstances in which another party may receive it. By continuing to use Jackson County Criminal History, you agree to the practices stated in this policy.

Data You Give Us Directly

Search Queries

A name or place entered in a search box is sent directly to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not keep or log those search terms on our own systems.

Messages and Contact Submissions

We retain an email sent to us when needed to prepare a response. The message remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.

Data We Gather Automatically

Our servers automatically receive basic technical information whenever a page loads:

  • Page-view dates, times, and visit duration
  • Your device's assigned IP address
  • Browser name and version
  • Operating system and device category
  • Pages opened during the visit
  • A referring website, when one is supplied

Cookies and Analytics

Cookies are small files saved on a visitor's device. They and analytics services help us see traffic patterns in aggregate, such as heavily used pages and common exit points. Browser controls can block cookies, although disabling them may change how some site functions behave.

What We Do With This Data

  • Route a search query to the provider selected by the tool
  • Maintain site availability, performance, and page speed
  • Diagnose errors and other technical faults
  • Measure which resources visitors use most
  • Display advertising that may reflect visitor interests

No Criminal-Record Data on File

Jackson County Criminal History does not operate, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal-record data. It publishes general directions to records held by the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, the Circuit Clerk and municipal courts, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency repository, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor information is not turned into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles.

Third-Party Search Partners

Outside companies operate the search boxes displayed on this site. A partner's privacy policy, retention period, and sharing rules govern information entered into its tool. We do not control those practices. Review the provider's policy before sending a query.

Links to Other Websites

Links may lead to the Jackson County sheriff, Alabama courts, ALEA, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's policy controls its collection and use of information. Read that policy before providing personal details.

Some advertising providers may use their own systems to track activity across websites for targeted advertising. We do not run that cross-site tracking.

Who Might See Your Data

We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to the following limited recipients:

  • Analytics vendors that measure traffic and performance
  • Search providers that process a query submitted through their tool
  • Advertising networks serving material on our pages
  • Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order

How We Protect Your Data

We use standard safeguards for information in our care. No internet service can guarantee perfect security, however, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.

Users Under 18

This resource is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such information, we will remove it.

Your Data Rights

Rights can depend on a visitor's residence and the law that applies. In Alabama, relevant state frameworks include the Alabama Deceptive Trade Practices Act, Ala. Code § 8-19-1 et seq.; criminal-justice information dissemination rules in Ala. Code § 41-9-590 et seq.; and the Alabama Open Records Act, principally Ala. Code §§ 36-12-40 through 36-12-46, for records held by public agencies. Subject to applicable limits, you may:

  • Request deletion of personal data where available
  • Ask what personal information we maintain about you
  • Seek correction of inaccurate information
  • Object to certain processing when the law provides that choice

Updates to This Policy

This privacy policy may be revised. Any new version will be posted here with an updated effective date, and continued use will be governed by the posted policy.
